Scotty's Castle

Much has been written about Walter Scott and his "castle": the intrigue, the real owners and benefactors, the gold mine and the larger than life stories and goings-on.

Existing thanks to the spring water farther up the canyon, it's an oasis unto itself, and worthy of at least a look at the history. Our first inclination was to take the underground tour to learn more about the workings of the systems that kept things going...in the 1/4 mile of basements and tunnels. Because of the hot weather though, these tours typically only run from September to May, and so we took the regular tour instead.

Keegan was our Ranger Guide, who was dressed in period costume, and lived the part very well as he explained history and  myth as we spent a very enjoyablee couple of hours within. Here are pictures of that visit, with only a little commentary...

One of the original pelton wheel turbines that produced electricity for the castle from the spring's water pressure piped down the canyon to the powerhouse.
The current semi-permanent resident is presently away from the Castle.
